Revolution

Revolution is the exchange between the old and the new. It results in some action occurring, whether it be violent or peaceful, the leads to a change in perspective of those who took part in or witnessed the action. It is not that the nature of actions themselves that make them revolutionary, but the nature of their results. Revolution enacts change by causing shifts in conceptual understandings. This can occur in many ways. Revolutions can occur through spreading of new ideas like the revolutionary ideas Marx published. They can occur through the invention or discovery of something physical like the scientific revolution. They can occur through physical force or political action like the Rwandan genocide. They can also occur through more peaceful physical means like the peaceful protests of the civil rights movement.
